As we continue to evolve how we interact with each other, governments have mandated that all web content be accessible to all persons with disabilities. Many organizations have started the process of ensuring that their websites are accessible but most organizations have not yet even considered the process of updating their digital forms so that they too meet the accessibility standards.

There is a wide range of different types of data capture that are being used that fall into these regulations, from digital read only print images that need to be completed offline and resubmitted back to the system, through to completely web-based solutions that are accessible and mobile ready, along with an array of combinations in-between.

Aside from government mandates, there are many reasons for ensuring digital forms are accessible. Creating forms that everyone can use reduces the amount of assistance and support required to ensure that the data capture is done correctly.

Modernizing digital forms allows organizations to not only improve the experience for people with disabilities but for everyone who engages with the method of data capture. Updating data capture and the business process around the data capture will also save organizations time and money.

The idea moving forward with accessible digital forms is to focus on removing paper, removing printing, removing scanning and removing data entry from the entire experience. Simplifying and automating the process empowers individuals to complete tasks independently, reduces the number of data entry errors and reduces the time to complete.
